Narelle is a multi award-winning artist with a background in education. Encouraging children through a hands-on approach to express themselves through colour, line, texture and form lead her to using various techniques within each piece of work. Narelle loves nature's design in everyday objects, exploring the complexities of texture, light, shade and reflection whilst blending and layering colours with glaze in an abstract style. The ambiguous nature of her subjects manipulate the perspectives of detail and obscurity. Narelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education majoring in Art, and a Bachelor of Education. She completed The Extraordinary Mind Project portrait drawing classes and has been a master class student in the Freedom School with David Giiles. Narelle's work is included in both commercial and private collections nationally, including Robert Juniper's private collection . . . Read More

Current exhibition: Flow What Flow means to me? by Carollyn Rhodes-Thompson FLOW         Flow is what the perfect life is all about … the journey…your truth. Being who you are meant to be, doing what we were born to do. Allowing your truth to emerge and flourish … just letting life be…letting go of the boundaries and the chains that hold us to a learned and set mould or pattern. Freedom of thought and desire to move without restriction and mind blocks. In my mind flow is having freedom of choice, releasing the voices in your head that are the words that block your self-belief and then your behaviour or actions.   Flow is… easy…gentle…moving…effortless… freedom… calm… empowering… unexpected… . . . My paintings float freely between representational and abstract. The colours, texture, and techique reflect the emotions assocated with each art piece. My abstract paintings are impulsive and intuitive. I work directly onto the canvas without prelimary drawings or studies. This accounts for the freshness and immediacy in this artwork. In my representational paintings, I start with preliminary drawings and studies. Once the initial image is created on the canvas, I allow my intuition to freely guide the direction the piece takes. The passion to be creative is what motivates me to be an artist. My art is a love affair with colour ,whimsy and life. Acrylic paint is my medium of choice, but I also draw into my paintings with pencils, pens and pastels, and I use collaged paper, fabric and little 3D pieces in many of my works. Currently I see my work as a celebration of life as a wife and mother of four, blissfully creating art in the midst domestic chaos. My images have an innocence about them that is a direct reference to my days watching my children interact and play. Imagination is a huge factor in my works and how frustrating it is as an adult to try and recapture the imagination that is so woven into a child’s life . . . Read More

Originally from South Africa Carmen now resides in Perth, Western Australia. Her main inspiration is drawn from the transpersonal, nature and experiences of her life both past and present. Carmen’s work is recognisable by the forces of bold colour, raw brushstrokes and the often quirky twists, subtle symbols and unusual titles. Her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas or board with the incorporation of other mediums including inks, oil pastels, charcoal and various texture mediums including impasto, sand, textiles and sometimes the use of collage. She has chosen to use these mediums in her own practice as they support the immediacy of her style and being quick drying allow her to create while the inspiration is fresh. They allow her to be spontaneous . . . Read More

ARTIST'S STATEMENT My work depicts images as they appear in life. The subject matter of my current body of work is Australian Plants, usually portrayed as black and white images on coloured backgrounds. The less traditional look of these botanical studies is achieved by using large scale canvasses and brightly coloured backgrounds. My works are multimedia pieces.  I draw with liquid graphite and black acrylic ink. I then ‘shade’ the images with graphite and conté. Around these images of plants I paint flat colour. This homage to the original botanical artists of Australia honours their decision to present plants out of context. The art is about the plants, not their setting. My art is about coming to terms with how something . . . Read More

Lindy Midalia - "Southwest by Northeast" from Kerotv on Vimeo.   Painting is now her passion and her work is about capturing the pure essence of the subject. Her first love is pastels which give a luscious and textured layered finish to her work. Acrylics and Gouache are other mediums that Lindy is enjoying using in her art work.   Lindy feels a strong connection to the ocean, with it's many seasonal changes throughout the year. She loves to capture the colours and atmosphere of the ocean and  it's surroundings, to give the viewer the feeling of actually being there.   I used to consider myself to be a traditional watercolour Artist, but after taking up Acrylic abstract painting in April 2008, I now considers my abstracts to be my signature Art.   My Abstracts are defined by the use of Colour, composition and a watercolour like approach with many dribbles and runs appearing in my work.   I have no objection to leaving the white of the canvas to portray mystical subjects.  Apart from the colour combinations my Abstracts are rarely pre-planned to any degree as this allows me to take the work in any direction I desire.   My first art teacher was Geoff Dyer, and I have studied under world renowned Watercolourist Tony Smibert, and more . . . Born in Perth, Andrew began his interest in the visual Arts from a young age, drawing inspiration from illustrated encyclopaedias, nature & from his immediate gold mining environment in the Goldfields of Western Australia where he spent most of his childhood. In 1978, he enrolled in a water colour painting course held in Boulder by the artist Walter Terrell. His paintings were sold to local citizens and tourists, looking for representations of local landmarks such as goldmine headframes and rustic buildings. Many of the structures were being ‘progressively’ demolished as part of the expansion of open pit mining around the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area.

Artist statement Everywhere I travel I find myself being imbued with a fascination for the birds of that area.  Whether I’m traveling to Mexico, New York City, Canada, Melbourne, Bali, Kakadu, or simply a quick trip down to Yallingup, Western Australia I take with me binoculars, a camera, and a field guide to birds. I find that it is the birds that seem to colour my experience of a region and give me a new sense of place. These recent paintings are stories about the places I’ve explored.  Some of the stories are real experiences, some are scientifically factual, others are anecdotes I learned along the way, and some are whispers given to me in that quiet moment when I . . .   Penny Shaw was born in England where her artwork was primary pencil and charcoal based. Penny was not inspired to paint until moving to Western Australia in the late 1990s, where she has been captivated by the quality of the light and the vibrancy of the colours. As a mother of four she has gravitated to painting children, initially as components of the landscape and after a recent study trip back to Europe, children's portraits. She aims to create a unique portrait that captures the essence of the child. Whether a simple head and shoulders or a landscape with your child pictured enjoying the great Australian outdoors, a portrait in oils is
