Narelle Manser-Smith Work

Congratulations to Narelle Manser-Smith Multi-Award Winner for the recent 2010 City of Melville Art Awards - Acrylic Winner and Judge's Choice (Overall Winner) painting Shifting Sands. Narelle’s background is in education. Encouraging children through a hands-on approach to express themselves through colour, line, texture and form lead her to using various techniques within each piece of work. Narelle loves nature's design in everyday objects, exploring the complexities of texture, light, shade and reflection whilst blending and layering colours with glaze in an abstract style. The ambiguous nature of her subjects manipulate the perspectives of detail and obscurity. Narelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education majoring in Art, and a Bachelor of Education. She completed The Extraordinary Mind Project portrait drawing classes and has been a master class . . . Read More

Yolande Bennett Work

The journey of self discovery and personal introspection has become the inspiration for my paintings.  The many layers and generous applications of paint applied with palate knives and occasionally with gestural brushwork have created artwork which is highly evocative and textural, inviting the viewer to make their own personal interpretations.   They are a symbolic representation of the intuitive layers of thinking and thought processes deep within the psyche of humans. They symbolize either surfaced or submerged memories depending on the clarity of the textured elements visible; some memories are vivid and always remain surfaced while others are faded or vanished over time. My search for innovative ways of articulating the notions of self identity has produced two main bodies of work. One focussed . . . Read More

Carolyn Griffiths Work

Carolyn’s painting techniques, explore the imagination and inner self. She employs abstract techniques – connecting many layers of paint with strong and light brush strokes to generate rounded, linear, sliding, textured, evocative forms on the canvas.        These forms moving across the canvas evoke light and shade, sometimes misty or ephemeral landscapes, city and coastal scapes, mood pieces, all reminiscent of her life in Western Australia. Carolyn’s painterly style evokes a sense of immediacy – of ‘painting in the moment’. She aims for a fresh perspective of nature and the deep inner life of the psyche.     Carolyn’s work employs mixed media, alongside acrylic and enamel paint. Joan Hillman Work

My paintings reflect my love and affection to the land, the sky, the sea and their visual representation through climatic change. I see my work as a way to assess my thoughts and accept that through the process of making work I see the image emerge finding its form and structure.    One of my main motivations to paint is the need to share experiences. Just by being surrounded by infinite variety of landscapes I can never cease to be amazed especially by those moments that stimulate and excite the artist.
